Claire McArdle: Mythos IV
From prehistoric cave paintings and ancient Egyptian art to neoclassical portraits of great leaders, horses have long been used as a symbol of strength and power. Centaurs, half horse half man, were often represented in Greek mythology and art in warfare, but also as beings of divine wisdom. As an artist, Claire McArdle draws inspiration from ancient Cycladic (Greek) motifs and forms, often sculpting the divine feminine. As an avid equestrienne with a horse and buffalo ranch, she deeply understands the powerful union of spirit between horse and human. This contemporary terra cotta measures 25x5x5."
