Danae bennett millerOne-of-a-kind- wildlife creations in bronze and glass
|
Danae Bennett Miller is a sculptor living and working in Central Oregon. In order to make her one-of-a-kind- works, Danae fabricates each sculpture from many individual parts using a lost wax process. Rather than sculpting the wax into a model, Miller pours wax out in individual slabs. The ragged slabs then become the building blocks for the sculpture, as they are placed and molded around an armature. These forms are given to a foundry, which then translates the shapes into bronze. Miller receives the pieces back and she welds them into place and adds the patina herself. Recently she has begun to add molded glass to her sculptures. Danae’s sculptures range in size from tabletop to one and a half times life-size. These monumental works are part of the cultural landscape in Bend, OR, with two public sculptures, one downtown and one in a roundabout, on permanent display.
